Mathematics
We use a Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Math Program entitled, GO Math!, a standards based rigorous curriculum which emphasizes the development of strong number sense, excellent mental math skills, deep understanding of place value, problem solving, and application of math skills. The curriculum is based on a progression from problem-based situations which then build to more abstract levels or algorithms. This sequence gives students a solid understanding of basic mathematical concepts and relationships. They develop deep conceptual understanding, and then they practice, apply, and discuss what they know with skill and confidence. GO Math! uses multiple models, manipulatives to engage students, quick pictures, and symbols to build mathematical understanding. The GO Math! approach focuses on developing students who are strong problem solvers and critical thinkers.

Other Options for Math Fluency Practice
Math fluency is critical to a student's self esteem as well as problem solving ability. XtraMath is a web-based program to increase speed and accuracy in arithmetic (all operations). Your child is invited to spend a few minutes each day practicing math on the computer. If you don't have Internet at home I can suggest alternative activities which are also effective.
To be honest, this is a resource, however not one of my favorites because it tells the student the answer. I have not set up a class account. If you would like, you can log on and create an account for your child.
