Classroom Rules & Expectations
My expectation for classroom behavior is that each student not do anything that prevents the teacher from teaching and the students from learning. In order to ensure that this takes place we will discuss our class rules, consequences, and rewards during the first week and throughout the year. Students in our classroom community are encouraged and expected to treat all members of the class with kindness and respect (always choose kind). Bothering others, bullying, and interrupting learning will not be tolerated. Should your child have days where they don't make good choices, I will communicate with you directly by emailing, writing in their planner, or by phone. They will also have a homework assignment to reflect on their choices, have you sign, and return the next day.
Thank you for your cooperation and support. I consider it a privilege to be your child’s teacher. I’m looking forward to an exciting and rewarding year with both you and your child. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions and concerns.
Sincerely,
Sandy Kepler

Room 43 Behavior Plan
I am a firm believer in a school and home partnership in order to provide the best education possible for each child. My philosophy is to have a reward system to acknowledge good choices in order to motivate all students to earn positive praise vs consequences for poor choices. I have developed a classroom plan, which affords every student some clear guidance in making good decisions about his or her behavior and thus an opportunity to learn in a safe, positive, nurturing classroom environment. I believe that by implementing an individual management system it assists students in developing high expectations of self and others. Your child deserves the most positive, pro-social educational climate possible for his/her educational, social, and emotional growth and development. Below is an outline of our class rules, positive rewards for exceptional behavior, and consequences for inappropriate behavior. It is very important that we acknowledge these rules both at home and at school to nurture success. I know that together we will make a difference in this process. Thank you for your support!
Class Rules
Treat others and the classroom with respect.
Always choose kind.
Always try your best.

- Lingle ROAR Ticket

Consequences
- Student will be spoken to after being given a warning. They will have a reflection paper for homework. If they return the next day without the paper completed or signed, they may do it during recess time that following day.
- If your child needs to be continually spoken to, I will either email, call, or write a note in your child’s planner.
- Severe behavior will result in a visit to the principal.
- Severe behavior may include but is not limited to fighting, bullying, classroom disruption, inappropriate language, unwillingness to cooperate and inability to regain control over one’s behavior.
Cougar Celebration
I am a firm believer in positive reinforcement. Therefore, in addition to the individual behavior system (ROAR), our class will also implement a class-wide behavior incentive using cougar paw prints. The students will work together as a class to earn paw prints by having good behavior in related arts classes, walking quietly in the hallway, and following the expectations in our classroom/school. Anytime they are given a compliment by myself or another adult in the building, they also earn a paw print. Each time they earn a paw print it will be connected to the paws, which will be hung from the ceiling. When the paws reach the floor, they will earn a reward/celebration, which they will vote on as a class.
Green Chip/Notes Home/QR Reward Coupons
In addition, students may earn a green chip, Cougar Cash, and a note (certificate) home for making good choices. Each time they earn a note they put their name in a jar. At the end of the week, I will pick eight names from the jar. The students chosen will scan a QR code coupon to reveal the reward they have won - including, but not limited to:
Lunch with Teacher - I choose a day at the end of the month.
Switch Seat – with permission they switch seats with someone for a day
Stinky Feet – they may remove shoes and wear socks while in the classroom
Homework Pass – one night no homework
Fuzzy Friend – may bring a small stuffed animal to keep with them for a day
Show & Tell - may share something from home
Read to the Class - read a short story
Author - share one of their pieces of writing with the class
Fancy Pens - student gets to use fancy pens for the day
Special Chair - sit in one of our special wobbly stools for a day
Proud Cloud & ROAR Tickets
I will also hand out "Proud Clouds" to help students recognize the best in themselves and others. These clouds reinforce good character with a dual purpose. Any student who deserves extra special attention for going above and beyond to brighten someone's day and show kindness, will receive a cloud. They then find someone to pass it along to - helping them recognize the best in others, too! I believe this helps students feel ownership in our community of learners as it fosters a level of respect as they will give and also receive in return. It is very refreshing to see how students (both the giver & receiver) respond to positive peer recognition!
Students may also earn ROAR Tickets which get recognized on the morning announcements. They are called to the office to receive Cougar Cash and put their name on the "Wall of Fame".
Secret Student
I secretly write a name of a student (name is hidden), whom I will be keeping an extra close eye on for the day, on the board. At the end of the day, I reveal the name (if they have earned the reward). They are able to have our Secret Student sign on their desk, use fancy pens, be the line leader, and sit on a Yoga ball the next day.
